[Resolved] I somehow broke the reverb on my Ribbons pedal…

I was messing around with the looper yesterday (blue bypass), and when I came back into tape effects (green bypass), something weird happened. My reverb no longer works. Noon on the reverb mix still is dry, but when I turn the dial left or right toward full wet (pre or post mix), instead of mixing in reverb it just turns the volume down. In some instances if I go ALL the way to full wet, and have the reverb decay set to infinite, I can BARELY hear the full reverb going.

Anyone else had this happen? Any fixes? I tried both a full factory reset, as well as INIT the first preset, but nothing has fixed the behavior on the reverb knobs.

Help!

Hey, that’s really strange. I’ve never heard of this happening before.

Did you try power cycling the pedal?

We don’t recommend a factory reset as a “cure all” for Ribbons, but sometimes people have thought they reset their Ribbons when they didn’t, so here’s a quick video showing how. Just make sure the UI looks like that.

What mono/stereo setup are you using? I think this happened to me once when I had the input configuration set to mono and plugged in a stereo source (or vice versa). Reverb just made the signal disappear almost completely

Hey team. Yes I’ve done the Factory Reset a few times with no fix, and power cycled, and eliminated all other pedals to just focus on this one. Here’s a video that shows what I’m dealing with. I don’t know if it’s sending back an empty signal or something way turned down, hard to figure this one out!

Thanks for any advice. Hopefully it’s fixable, as reverb with the tape loop is my favorite thing about this pedal!

I’ve got a TRS cable going out of my Scarlett 4i4, into the Ribbons, and then another TRS out of that pedal, back into the Scarlett, using Ableton’s Ext Audio Effect to round trip it.

What’s weird is that, with this same setup, I had the reverb working fine. I must have messed up something in the settings while working on it, just no clue what it was nor how to do forensics on how to UNDO it.

Oh, you know what, I think I know what the issue might be. I think it’s a setup issue on your end.

Ribbons is TRS stereo but you’re plugging it into / out of a TRS balanced input/output on your interface.

Balanced = opposite phase signals on the tip and ring

Stereo = left and right channels on the tip and ring

When you plug the stereo input or output to a balanced interface input, it subtracts the left and right channels, and you get complete phase cancelation.

Solution: use TS cables for mono operation or TRS to dual TS cables for stereo operation.

I had the same issue, formulated differently so I did not realize you were facing a similar situation :face_with_hand_over_mouth:Ribbons sinewave synth - volume issues

Yeah this fixed the issue. Or rather, I put the Enzo Meris in front of the Ribbons in my chain and that fixed it. I think the Meris can take my TRS in and pass it through the TS jumpers and Ribbons is happy again. It was when I removed the other pedals from my chain that this volume phasing appeared.

Thanks for that, Jaak!
