Kinotone February 2026 Update

Hi all,

It’s been a long while without an update, so I wanted to share a bit about what’s up around here at Kinotone.

We had a challenging start to the year, as did many of our friends here in Minneapolis. We were under a lot of pressure to wrap up the last of our 2025 orders and it was tough to show up every day with everything going on around us. Still, we did our best to stay focused, kept things moving in the shop, and we finished. Woohoo.

Huge thanks to everyone who picked up a unit during our big fall pre-order. We’re genuinely grateful for your support and interest in these strange and delightful metal rectangles of ours, and we hope they’re inspiring you. :people_hugging:

This month we’ve been focused on building up the remaining electronics we have on hand, and we now have a decent pile of inventory ready to ship.

We’re having a sale tomorrow (2/26)

Time is still TBD. We’ll post in the Announcements category when it goes live, and forum users should get an email heads up (unless you’re a lurker checking constantly). If you’re curious how the email stuff works, there’s more info here.

Here is most of what will be included:

  • A small batch of Ghosts, mostly B-stock. These units have minor cosmetic imperfections (for example a paint scratch) and will be discounted to $379

  • The last of the “Casper Clear” Ribbons

  • A handful of blue Sparks, and a few B-stock yellow Sparks. We do have more Sparks electronics but we haven’t started building and testing them yet, so we’ll probably sell the rest of the Sparks this spring.

Ghosts pre-orders are opening soon

If you miss out on a Ghosts on Thursday, try not to feel discouraged. We’ll be opening pre-orders for another run in the next couple weeks here, and I’m hopeful it will be easy to get one.

Other stuff that’s on our minds

Aside from the sale, we’ve been planning for the year and doing a lot of reflecting about how things are going and what we want to work on in 2026. We’ll mostly be focused on:

  • Video tutorials, guides, tips & tricks from us
  • More consistent production runs of our devices
  • Firmware updates
  • The capacitive touch keyboard / sequencer we’ve been teasing.

Alright, just gave JHS some money for their newest release, now it’s your turn!! Gotta complete my kinotone trio, only missing sparks. So glad they’re prebuilt and ready to go, I can’t wait! Love you guys, and glad you made it through the craziness of last month.

I missed it again! Sounds like it was a small batch. Plus you’re doing pre-orders for the next batch. If I miss that, it’s my own damn fault.:smirking_face:

Woohoo. Very excited to finally have a ribbons on the way.

Annoyingly it’s been sat at the fed ex depot a few miles from my house for the last couple of with some sort of issue I’m waiting for them to resolve before they can deliver it and I can actually use it…

So close…

Ok… Sooooo having got my grubby little mitts on my ribbons, I have to say this thing is incredible.

I have arguably far tooany effects pedals all covering the tape degradation kind of vibe, but this… Is something else.
