You can bypass the resonators completely by turning the DECAY knob to zero which lets you use the reverb or any of the Touch Modes on their own.
Although, who’d buy Ghosts to use it just as a reverb )))
The pedal does not perform pitch and transient detection to trigger the internal exciter and create koto, flute, and xylophone sounds. I think if you had a MIDI guitar (like a Jamstik) you could use it to play Ghosts like a koto or xylophone with a guitar.
Yes it is. You can place the looper (or any of the touch modes) after the resonators and record looped layers of different sounds.
Will we be able to use MIDI to trigger the drums? That would be the sweetest icing on an already incredible cake.
@jaak +1 would be killer
I’ll not speak for Jaak, but the drum machine addition being a touch mode with specific algos/patterns AND midi already being used for the built in synth, I can’t really see manual drum triggering being feasible. That said, Jaak is a mad scientist so you never know.
I was thinking the same thing. It would be easy to implement external triggering of the drums… but how would we do it?
MIDI note data is already preoccupied with tuning the resonators. If someone proposed an elegant way to trigger them that doesn’t interfere with that, I’d be open to it.
But I can’t think of a way to handle it without muddying up the user interface.
The first thing that came to mind would be assigning the drums their own channel. It feels like overkill to have an entire channel dedicated to 4 drum triggers. I’d do it, but I might be in the minority there.
The only other thing I can think of is to reserve notes 0-3 as drum triggers. That’s C0 through D#0 which are all below 20Hz. I’d definitely be willing to give those up, but understand that it’s not the most intuitive thing to say that these 4 particular notes are different than the others.
Not sure I’d classify either of those as elegant solutions, though.
MIDI channel 10 is the de facto (if not official) standard for drums. Any supported receive (and send?) messages specific to the drums could default to channel 10 with an option to set its channel in a boot configuration mode. Every MIDI setup I build reserves channel 10 for drum machine
.
I’d also say that if a user wanted to assign the drums and resonators to the same channel, just let both of them do their thing when they receive a note within their range…this could even be a feature. Maybe along with the ability to determine which notes will trigger the drums via the aforementioned configuration boot mode. But that would be a bonus and as much as I could imagine you’d need to consider.
It could be a midi CC that is set to 16 which would mean “disabled by default” (0-15 are channels). if set to the same channel as the device, it occupies/overrides the lower notes. those who do need those notes would have the option to not use the drums. any other channel would occupy the lower notes of that channel respectively to remain consistent.
Another idea would be to occupy 9 notes allowing hard panned version of each.
Can you trigger the resonator via midi and audio at the same time? Like with guitar audio in and midi input
When could we expect the Ghosts manual to be publicly available?
Thanks to TGP I found the Ghosts pedal, and am now pacing the floor waiting for Batch 3. I am making my dog nervous! Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these.
I feel you!
It’s already a sign that you can currently get in on a ribbons or sparks from the ground up.
I had no idea the second batch would go out so readily. I thought it would be more a seasonal thing. On my end, it’s a cash flow thing, so I mentally prepared to make the additional decision next month.
But at the rate of output, our courageous pioneers (that’s both our engineers, inventors, producers and musicians!) could conceivably lift their heads for a third wave after accounting for the current timeline/construction cycle. that’s at least my current assumption.
Can’t wait for my Ribbons!
Is there an estimated date? Not general 8-10 weeks?
Also love to know this, how does it handle MIDI talking to the resonators and say guitar audio also coming inbound to the pedal. Which source gets routed to the resonators (one or both?)
Any idea how long pre order time will be open for ribbons? Waiting on a check to come in but do not want to miss this.
Hey folks let’s get some Ghosts videos uploaded to YouTube already ![]()
Question about using Ghosts as a modeling synth: does it register velocity of midi controller keys? If not, is this something you’re thinking of implementing? Pardon this question if it’s been asked and/or answered.
Nope, you’re the first to ask about it. It’s on my list to implement it in a future update. It’s actually already supported in the firmware, I just need to set up a message to turn it on or off.
