Winter Kinotone — 2024

Hello,

Hope ya’ll are doing alright out there! :white_heart:

It’s officially winter in Minneapolis and it seems like a good time for an update about what we’re working on. We’ve got a handful of goals to round out this year.

December sale

We’re building up and selling pretty much all of our remaining inventory. The sale will be next Friday December 13th. We’ll confirm details in a separate announcement post soon which should send everyone on the forum an email.

Both Sparks and Ribbons will be available. We had to order some extra enclosures for Ribbons so we’re doing a new colorway, matte pretty pink, which is the same as last year’s pink but with a matte finish and black text.

This will be the last opportunity to snag a pedal from us for a bit. I’m sure we’ll build more next year but no timing to share yet.

2.0 firmware is coming... soon

Some Ribbons users have asked about the 2.0 firmware and when it will be available. (Just to be clear - if you have a grey unit you already have this. The update is for existing users).

We’d planned to make 2.0 available before the end of November but I need a bit more time. We’ve been really focused on moving Kinotone out of our home and setting up our shop space. Building shelving, benches, storage… it’s coming along but dang it’s a lot of work! I don’t want to promise a specific delivery date but I’ll do my best to finish it asap. We’ll share here on the forum when it’s ready. Thanks for your patience.

Custom MIDI Cables

Are you tired of plugging your MIDI cable into an adapter… into another adapter? Well we had some custom DIN to TRS MIDI cables made and should have them up in our webstore in time for the sale.

Plug and play with Kinotone pedals and any standard TRS Type A MIDI device. There seems to be a lack of these 1/4 inch cables on the market - especially an affordable one - so hopefully these will be helpful to people.

They look like this:

New Pedal R&D

I’ve secretly been working on a third pedal for quite some time now. I’m really excited about it - been gigging with a prototype and I think it might be the coolest and most unique thing we’ve made to-date.

We are selling off the rest of our Sparks and Ribbons to help fund production costs. We’re hopeful that this next one can be available for immediate shipment once it’s ready instead of having to do a pre-order to fund it. Once we’re on the other end of this December sale, getting our next device across the finish line will be my main focus for the foreseeable future. Hoping for a release sometime in Q1 of 2025.

Thanks for reading! Any questions, feel free to ask. Here are some recent pictures -

Congratulations on the shop space. Its beautiful.

Also, thank you for making awesome stuff.

I have ribbons and am hoping to secure a sparks when you open orders on the 13th.

Honestly, I’d pay right now. :+1:

Anyway, keep doing what you are doing!

Congrats on the new space :tada: what an exciting step forward!

Looking forward to the December 13th sale and the chance to snag one of those matte pink Ribbons :ribbon:.

The teasing of your new pedal has me (and likely many others) really intrigued. Any hints on the type of effect? Some of us might be in the market now, but Kinotone is always worth the wait, so knowing the category might help us hold off for what’s sure to be an amazing release!

Best of luck to you! 2025 is already shaping up to be exciting for Kinotone fans :star2:!

Well done, guys!!

Does anyone have tips for snagging a pedal on launch? I can never seem to get one in time before they sell out. Thanks folks!

I recommend you:

  1. Load the product page a little before 4 pm central time.
  2. Refresh the product page right at 4 pm central time.
  3. Add the item(s) to your cart.
  4. Go to checkout and add your billing / shipping / payment info (using autofill can speed this up)

It took us about 1 hour to sell out last time and I think this time will be similar, so as long as you get on the site close to the sale time, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting one.

Oh that is totally doable! It must have been user-error on my end last time. Can’t wait for the 13th!

Success!!! Good luck everyone!

Darn, I just tried to order a Sparks, refreshed the page at 4 on the dot, saw they were in stock, took a minute to enter my card details… Then by the time I had entered my card details, they were out of stock again!! Gutted.

Is there any way to still get one or are they all gone? If so can there be a waiting/pre-order list to put my name on for the next sale?

Yes, I snatched one. Now I have both…At first the Sparks were not appealing to me b/c lack of time processing… but after a few vids with right amount of GAS and true stereo processing this will be a good companion to Chroma . In overall a great swiss knife. For ppl that don’t particularly use this with guitars… (I do occasionally ) I would also recommend bastl kastle 2 effect processor. I snatched two of those  b/c they are so so good . Yes there are the silly cheap patch cables but even without any the unit can do some serious stereo damage. I usually run ribbons right after the kastle 2 to help with reverb and more “leashed” time processing

Were you able to get one, I hope?

Edit: Ah, saw your updated comment! Excellent!

I set an alarm, checked a few minutes before and at 4pm sharp, reloaded the page all night and still couldn’t get a Sparks. I’m quite pissed now.
