Sparks Input/Output Option for Mic (wind instrument)

I’ll try all of them, but what do you think would be the best choice for saxophone mic? I use a mic with a preamp and often go through a JHS Colour Box, as well.

Thanks!

Greetings.

I’ve been playing sax through effects for about 25 years. For the past 5 or 6 years, I’ve been using an Intramic. It’s amazing. It’s acoustically isolated (mostly) inside the mouthpiece with no drilling. It’s a thin-as-hell flat cable that sits on the cork and hooks inside the neck on the MPC end.

For almost all of the earlier time, I used a mic preamp (this changed a lot as products improved). The longest run was an Eventide MixingLink with an ElectroVoice EV468 mic with a clamp on my bell.

Are you using a DI at the end of your chain?

If you want, we can FaceTime/Zoom or call and chat through it. I’m happy to help.

I really appreciate your reply - some serendipitous info you’re sharing! I’ll shoot you a DM

I’d recommend the line level mode. With the saxophone being harmonically rich to begin with, the line level mode will pad the input and make the drive and fold settings more subtle than the instrument level.

Thank you - good point! I seem to be blowing out the gain and fold fairly quickly now

I’ll have to try them again. I did a set it and forget it long back.
