[Resolved] Ribbons flanging

I must be doing something wrong… every time I adjust wow, flutter, crinkle, or drop out, I’m getting a strong flanger sound. I’ve tried the INIT preset several times, but I’m still getting it.

slowly losing my mind…. help….

What’s your setup like? If you have the mix at full, it shouldn’t flange, but maybe you’ve got some phasing issues with the input settings? Are you going stereo in/out, mono? Also, is this with guitar/instrument level material? Or line level?

If you’re using Ribbons on a mixer aux send, you’ll always get a flange sound because it’s never 100% wet (you always get some dry on the channel and then wet on the aux return).

Also, if using a wind instrument, you might be hearing the sound of the instrument in the room mixed with the audio from your speakers or headphones, which might sound more like a flange and less like a vibrato.

Thanks for getting back with me Jaak!

Not using a send on a mixer.

I was actually testing it with audio from my iPad.

@TheTimberOwls

I’m going iPad to Tensor to Particle to Dobbo to Mood to Ribbons, all stereo in / out into a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 for headphones.

I’ll reduce it just to iPad to Ribbons to interface and see what happens. Oh, and I’ll try switching to line level.

I tried directly from my iPad into Ribbons, Stereo In / Stereo Out Line Level and still getting crazy swooshing flanging sounds if anything other than 100% wet or 100% dry.

I’ve never experienced this with any pedal, including Sparks and Ghosts. I am so excited about Ribbons. I hope I just missed something in the manual and it’s a face palm

EDIT: from the manual “ For example, at 100% mix you can get a tape-like vibrato, at 50% a lush chorus, and at zero you’ll get no effects at all — just your dry signal.”

Is there any way to get the dry signal mixed with the 100% wet sound? Do I need to buy another pedal to do parallel? I had no idea. The chorus effect is really intense. I’ll read more and see if that can be dialed back in hidden settings. This is such an amazing pedal. I wish I could control input signal and effect signal like Sparks and Ghosts.

EDIT EDIT: Ok, Ribbons is the most amazing pedal EVER!!! So, why can I run this in 100% wet and it is the perfect blend of dry and effected sound? I never would have expected. Sounds amazing!
My apologies for not spending more time with it (and the manual) before posting. Blown away. wow!

This is all explained in detail in this post.

Yep, thanks! I had searched for flange on the forum, but not chorus.

Again, sorry I didn’t read the manual more closely before posting.

And again - Ribbons is awesome!!! :folded_hands:

Do a factory reset. If that doesn’t work, there’s something wrong with pedal.

It’s resolved (see above).

I didn’t realize that with Mix at 50%, there is a chorus effect (what I described as flanging).

Thanks though
