New anti-spam measures taken

Hey ya’ll,

You may or may not have noticed a burst of spam posts on the forum posted overnight. These have been removed, the users deleted, and IP addresses blocked.

This has happened a couple of times this year now so we’ve decided to implement some additional measures to keep the forum tidy. New users will need to answer an anti-spam question and require staff approval before getting access to the forum.

Just wanted to apologize in case any spam ended up in your inbox via email notifications. We’ve taken action and hopefully you won’t see that sort of thing again.

Thanks!

It just raises a question to me as to why they target small businesses and DIY who are diligent and passionate about their art, as opposed to spamming a corporate or multi national outfit. This is a minor inconvenience to patrons like myself, but a major disruption to the business owners. All is well that ends well though. Cheers!

It’s the Discourse engine they are blindly targeting. I’ve seen the same on Elektronauts.

No clue how they can use an automated procedure to create bot accounts, but I guess it can be sold.
