Loading and using MTS scales

I am trying to load a MTS Sysex file to set the user tuning. I’m using USB-C MIDI (direct, no hub) on Windows 11 using MIDI-OX, with Ghosts selected as the only MIDI output device and the Chord knob set to User.

This seemed to work at first, based on seeing the bytes go by in the MIDI-OX window. But I never see any visual indication on the pedal that the transfer is occurring – the manual says Ghosts will briefly glow to show successful receipt of an MTS file, but I never see this. And when I strum the mic, I hear no change, just the same (default) chord.

What am I missing?

If the LEDs don’t blink/glow green, Ghosts didn’t receive an MTS Bulk Tuning Dump.

I just tried sending a couple scales via Sysex Librarian here on my Macbook over USB C and they worked as expected. Ghosts’ usual success pattern glowed and the tuning was implemented when I set the Chord knob to “user”.

I’m at home today and don’t have access to a Windows machine so I can’t offer specific step by step guidance on MIDI-OX. I can report back tomorrow when I am back in the shop.

Are you sure you sent it a bulk tuning dump? Can you share the MTS file you’re using via Google drive or other similar file sharing service?

Thanks, here’s a folder containing three files, all generated by Scala: syx - Google Drive

I just noticed that Scala supports several different MTS file outputs, I am probably using the wrong one. I’m using the first one, “MIDI Tuning Standard single notes dump, 3 bytes”. I just tried a file produced by Scale Workshop – and it works! I wish I know which Scala MTS output type this corresponds to, but I’m happy to have a solution.

I removed those files from Drive since they’re useless.

Oh yeah that’s It. What you uploaded aren’t MTS Bulk Tuning files. They are “single note tuning files”, which Ghosts does not support.

I thought we included the language “bulk tuning dump” in the online manual but it looks like this is missing. I’m sorry about that - I will add it to clarify.

Glad you got it sorted. Enjoy your custom tuning adventures!
