Guitar looping w/ MIDI Clock

Maybe I’m being dumb, but with MIDI clock being sent to the looper, I can’t record a clean first-loop. Is there a trick to doing solo guitar-looping sessions where I can record a loop and then turn MIDI clock on for my time-based effects? Do I just have to send the “ignore MIDI clock” CC to Ribbons? And only provide MIDI clock to the other effects?

Or is there way to tap-tempo on my MIDI controller, and have Ribbons re-set its downbeat based on when I record/play the first loop?

Hey @benz.mp3 ! Thanks for posting on the Kinotone forum. Could you describe your setup a little more? It would be helpful to know what’s sending the MIDI clock to your pedals.

You can reset Ribbons’ downbeat by sending it a “MIDI Start” message. Most drum machines and rhythmic devices that send MIDI clock do this when you press play. This is how they tell other devices where the downbeat is.

Thanks for replying Jaak! If I do a MIDI Start when I start recording the loop, that will sync the downbeat, when I go to tap to finish recording will it quantize to the nearest beat of the clock?
