Feature Request: MIDI Takeover (vocoder) voicing knob ! (For harp-like glissandos)

Hey guys, just before I begin I wanted to say that I got the Ghosts pedal today and am so incredibly inspired messing around with this thing. One of the best pedals I’ve ever had the opportunity to use  thank you so much for making this !!!

With that being said I have one request!!

My current setup is that I have my keystep connected via midi to the ghosts, and my OP-1 feeding drums through the input. What I would really love, is if we’re able to use the voicing knob whilst in MIDI Takeover mode to shift the midi notes up and down the inversions of the chords that are outputted from the keystep. I envision this feature resulting in this almost glissando/ARP harp texture when moving the voicing up and down which would be so cool!!! (And even the vocoder hold as well, would be great to have this function too ! It would nice creative performance addition to an already incredible pedal)

When I was reading the manual I think I noticed it saying that the voicing knob was deactivated in MIDI Takeover mode…? Perhaps because there isn’t any other parameter on that knob, this might be a possible addition without interfering with the rest of the pedal features..? Would love to know what you guys think

Thanks guys  and if this is already a feature pls let me know !!! I might be silly and not checked hard enough in the manual

Hey, thanks for the feature request. This is not something that Ghosts currently does but it’s an interesting request.

You’re correct that when Ghosts is playing MIDI notes, the ROOT, CHORD, and VOICING knobs are ignored. We are definitely interested in adding some interaction there but need to be careful about how it’s done. For example there would be some interaction with Ghosts’ microtonal features to be accounted for (e.g. some scales don’t have 12 notes in an octave, they have more or fewer).

In general though I agree it would be cool and when we do a firmware update for Ghosts I can spend a bit more time looking into it.

Love this idea. That glissando (almost more arpeggio) effect would sound amazing automated with a midi lfo too.

Along the same vein, when using midi input it might also be interesting/useful if you could offset the resonator note an interval from the midi input notes. So resonator tuned a 5th, octave, etc, even chromatic, above or below the midi note. And sweeping that parameter could create a true glissando if set to chromatic, cascading 5ths/octaves…“relative” 5ths would be cool too.

Maybe root could set the offset amount (0 at 12 o’clock), chord could set the interval/constraints for offset with the least dissonant options first (scale interval+octave, chromatic, “relative” interval, unquantized), and voicing could do the inversion thing. Or maybe it would become a tangled mess too quickly?!

love this !!! Yes being able to control this with an expression pedal or midi would be a dream !!
and the 5ths thing is really interesting too, would love to see how that would sound if it did become a real feature !

Thank you Jaak !! I appreciate you taking the time to read my message. So excited to hear what comes from this !

big vote yes for me on any and all of these great ideas!
