I tried the midi clock and midi control on the Ribbons and it work really well. The nice thing is that when you stop the midi clock and start and you recorded some loops in the Ribbons, the loop will be get back on grid slowly and smooth.
But it will be nice when you stop the midi clock source like with the Elektron Octatrack that the loops stopping as well and start with the midi start/stop commands.
Hi there,
Yes it would a very convenient feature, as far as we keep the option to activate or deactivate the feature.
Depending on the rig setup and/or context, a Midi Clock Start and Stop functionality can really be very troublesome so it is absolutely necessary to be able to deactivate it at will.
As an avid Digitakt user, I appreciate this feature request. I enjoy creating MIDI clock-synced loops with Ribbons and the Takt. However, I know that Ribbons can struggle when it receives START and STOP messages while loops are playing back. After a STOP message, the loops continue playing, and when Ribbons gets another START, it tries its best to re-sync but often ends up out of position on the grid. Having loops restart at 0 upon receiving a START message and stop after a STOP message could be a handy feature.
@Yl-lY read my mind, though. MIDI clock start, stop, and clock functionality can vary quite a bit from device to device, which raises some concerns about implementing this. The Takt and some other drum machines continuously supply a clock, interrupting it with start and stop messages. In contrast, a DAW like Ableton only provides a clock between START and STOP messages. There are likely other variations that could create challenges for certain setups. However, if there were an option to turn this feature on or off, I could see it being beneficial for those who want to use it, without causing frustration for those who don’t.
While it won’t make it into the big Ribbons 2.0 update that’s coming, we can add it to our list of things to explore if and when we have the resources. Thanks for the suggestion!
