Feature request: Being able to control stereo spread in Crinkle

Hi!

Thought i would share this - i run ribbons in a stereo rig, processing all things imaginable. I really love the Crinkle effect, but the fact that it’s effect is so prominent in what it does to the stereo field makes me not use it - even at subtle settings it shifts the stereo image a lot, so that it’s not that subtle. Would it be possible to make a hidden option to run crinkle in mono? Maybe continous from mono to stereo? Potientially also for dropouts, but in my experince the effect is not as drastic in dropouts.

Anybody else experience the same? Just my thoughts. Peace:)

We actually have similar feelings about the Crinkle control - the stereo image can get intense pretty fast. Jaak sometimes even prefers the sound of Crinkle in mono haha.

We can add this to the Development Blog as something to investigate and potentially dial in when we get to the next update. I don’t think it’d be a “hidden knob” though because there is only 1 left that it not in use and we’re reserving it for something else.

So … tbd on what Jaak will do but he can probably do something.

I definitely prefer crinkle in mono as well! Maybe just being able to switch it to mono would be great I think (at least for me) :slight_smile: Thanks for the fast reply.

You could make it MIDI-controllable, this would tick most boxes, I think.

I think this is a great idea. I love Crinkle – but also find the stereo movement can be a bit much.

I’m sure I would use Crinkle more if I could control stereo spread – or even if I could just switch it between stereo and “mono”.

We’re considering using it for different varieties of Noise with more character (more than just hiss and crackles) for an upcoming firmware update.

Looking into this for an upcoming update. Thanks.

Jaak, this is great news about more control over noise and crackles.

One thing I don’t feel very comfortable with Ribbons is the way noise and crackle controls are organized. I can never dial in the exact amount of those effects: I am always getting either too much noise, or too much crackle ))) I can’t dial them both subtly. The wet-dry mix control also is not always helpful, as sometimes I need to run Ribbons full wet, and still have finer control over noise and crackle.

Please oh please, at least give us separate control over noise and crackle via MIDI commands, we can leave it on one physical knob, I understand the limitations of physical controls, but MIDI is endless )))
