Cutoff not working after long rehearsal

Hi y’all. Having a small issue with my sparks. I was rehearsing for quite a bit with my band, and after about 1.5 hours of having the pedal on, I went to change the cutoff and nothing changed. hit a long tone and swept both the mode and cutoff around and heard no difference at all. I haven’t been able to test it again but I was hoping I accidentally did something and it’s not an issue with the pedal. Anyone have any advice?

For reference I’m running a big muff into sparks into ribbons. only used it a handful of times so far. It’s also plugged into a morningstar mc6 that I haven’t set that up yet, so I was wondering if that could possibly be overriding my settings somehow.

I’m also running with TRS cables but currently only running into one amp until the stereo rig is done. I’m not sure if that could make a difference either.

Thanks folks. Loving the pedals other than this small issue.

Remember that Sparks has two layers of controls - the black text layer (LEDs dark blue) and white text layer (LEDs white). You tap the LAYER button to switch between the two.

Is it possible you were on the white layer and adjusting the SPIN control instead of the CUTOFF?

Hey,

Thanks for the quick response! I was for sure on the blue page. I thought that as well and swapped between them and still had no difference.

Appreciate the help!

The blend knob did work on the white page, I couldn’t test the spin because i’m in mono. But it seems the only one with issue was the cutoff/mode settings.

Hmmm I have never experienced that. In general if Sparks isn’t responding the way you think it should, you probably have some setting or combination of settings dialed in that you maybe aren’t aware of.

Try holding down LAYER, LFO MAP, and ENV MAP for 3 seconds and it will reset the pedal to a transparent state. Then you can troubleshoot if something is actually going on.

Maybe GATE was turned up too high and you completely gated the wet signal? You also wouldn’t hear the filter if BLEND is cranked and the LEVEL is down.

Try resetting your Sparks like that and then see if you are able to recreate this. If it’s still happening please share a quick video with me and we can take it from there. Thanks!

Appreciate it! I’ll try that out the next time I get some rehearsal time.

My approach is

  • on the white page set dry signal (topmost center knob) to off (fully CCW)
  • On the same page set the big middle knob fully CW (100% wet)
  • On the same page turn the highpass (middle bottom knob) fully CCW (full bandwidth signal)

Now go to the “black” page and twiddle them knobs. You should be hearing some nice shit happen
